It was quite a journey, and it was the best one yet...

In September of 2015, I decided to do the "BIG CHOP". This was my second time cutting off all of my chemically processed hair in the attempt of going 'Natural'. My first natural journey was a super short one. I reverted to chemicals within 2 to 3 months of cutting, because I caved at the frustration of styling and waiting for my hair to grow out. It was always easier to visit the salon and have someone else manage my hair rather than doing it myself, especially when it was 18 inches long.

My second attempt, and definitely a more permanent one, was inspired by a new path I took in my life. I decided to leave my job and pursue my career as an entrepreneur, and a fresh start was warrant in all aspects. I wanted to celebrate all that is me naturally, and to be apart of a community where women (and men) celebrated self love and their natural mane. During this journey, I fell in love with this curly fro of mine, even when others may not have liked it. It definitely had its weird phases, but I got to understand what works and what doesn't. With the diverse line of natural hair products readily available, it made my journey an easy one.

There was certainly a feeling of accomplishment when hitting my One Year milestone of embracing my natural hair. I was not tempted to throw in the towel for something new or manageable, but stuck to my new found beliefs.

It's A Hair (ANNI)versary!

In celebration of my Natural Hair (Anni)Versary, I treated myself to a day at the salon with Celebrity/ Healthy Hair Stylist (and name double) Nesha Weems

We started off with a hair assessment of my texture, moisture level and growth, then proceeded to washing. Next was my favorite part... The Micro Mist Hair Treatment! As the name suggests, it uses mist (not steam) to repair and rejuvenate your hair, giving strength, suppleness and a longer lasting shine. My curls felt softer and hydrated, and my old hair color looked just like new.

Since my transition, I had not trimmed nor applied any heat to my hair. Nesha gave me a layered cut that I can rock both curly or straight, but I was always hesitant with applying heat for fear of heat damage. Nesha reassured me that with proper methods a straight look can be achieved, so I opted for it. My hair was roller set, dried, then flat ironed to achieve what I called 'layered perfection'.

I absolutely loved the final result and my hair felt healthier and looked even better. Nesha walked me through the entire process and suggested products best used for a happy healthy hair.

P.S. I was able to manage this look for a week and a half in the California weather.
